Amorita Jane Harris, lovingly known as Amy, 81, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 81. Amy was born on May 4, 1945, to Emma and Royal Stocum in Owego, NY. She graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1963 and lived a life centered on family, hard work, and the simple joys that made every day meaningful. Amy retired from IBM in Endicott after many years of dedicated service, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of her colleagues.
Amy is survived by; her devoted husband, Raymond L. Harris; daughter, Lorraine Blakeslee, with her children, Christine, Tori, and Nicholas; her son, Michael Kanaby & his wife, Dannielle, along with their children, McKenna and Hunter; as well as six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous pride and joy. Amy also leaves behind her sisters, Joyce May (Gary) and Betty Decker, nieces and nephews, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Amy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She looked forward to the Kentucky Derby every year, especially when it happened to fall on her birthday. She loved getting lost in a good book, taking a leisurely drive in her dream convertible with Ray, spending time with family during gatherings and celebrations, and watching hummingbirds visit her bird feeder. Those quiet moments brought her great peace and happiness. Amy will be remembered for her love of family, strength, kindness, and the many memories she created with those fortunate to know her. Her legacy lives on in her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us, the love Amy shared and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Amy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
