ICE agent husband gets login to Flock Camera data from wife a local police officer
SPD fired Amber Harpe, provided Flock access to her ICE agent husband. By: Staff Reporter
Amber Harpe, a police officer in Savannah, Georgia, lost her job in August after a department investigation found that she had shared her Flock login credentials with her husband, Tyler Harpe, an ICE agent. SPD does not share its Flock data with ICE and said that sharing access violated the department’s security protocols.
According to Savannah’s local ABC affiliate, WJCL, Tyler Harpe used his unauthorized access to conduct 983 searches involving 97 license plates, overwhelmingly registered to Hispanic drivers. The Harpes defended their actions, saying the searches were strictly for “law-enforcement purposes,” not personal reasons.
Interim Major Max Nowinsky initially recommended an eight-hour suspension for Amber Harpe. Major Michelle Halford and Assistant Police Chief Robert Gavin disagreed and removed her from the force.
Harpe and five other SPD employees were fired after an internal investigation uncovered misuse of Flock. Four of those employees were later arrested; Harpe was not among them.
