Charles “Chuck” Freije, 74, of Conklin, NY, passed away on January 5, 2025. A proud brother, father, grandfather, and loyal friend, Chuck will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born to Theodore Freije and Marjorie DuMond, Chuck was predeceased by; his parents; his siblings, Ed Freije and Debbie Pinney; his son-in-law, Jack Keenan; and his granddaughter Morgan Lynn. He is survived by; his wife, Angelina; his children, Kari Keenan, Chad (Whitney) Freije, Eric Freije, and Stephanie (Ben) LaClair, as well as their mother, Darlene Meeker; also survived by his siblings, David (Kathy) Freije, Janet (Gordon) Reuscher; sister-in-law, Sue Freije, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly. Chuck was a 1968 graduate of Susquehanna Valley High School. He spent many years managing the Barn Restaurant with his family. As a bartender, he was a familiar face around the Southern Tier, and his sense of humor made him a friend to all. Over the years, Chuck became a fixture at the field and in the stands as he took great pride in supporting his children and later, his grandchildren at their sporting events. His presence could not be missed as his ‘enthusiasm’ was unmatched, but the pride he took in his family’s achievements was even more evident. His unwavering support made him a beloved figure to all who got to know him.
Above all, Chuck will be remembered for his love of family. He cherished his time with his grandchildren—Brandon, Matthew, Carter, Camden, Brynn, Savannah, and Holden—and great-grandson Cameron. The summers spent at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake were some of his happiest times, particularly those spent boating and fishing with his grandkids.
A private viewing for the family will be held at Chuck’s request. A celebration to honor Chuck’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 12:00-4:00 at Sanitaria Springs Fire Company.
